Newborn Session: Q&A’s

Thinking about newborn portraits? Here are some of the most common questions I get asked about the newborn sessions:

When should I schedule my newborn session?

Right now! If you are pregnant & know that you want a newborn photo session, please schedule your session as soon as you can. We will set up a tentative session for a week after your due date. We can finalize your session & time depending on baby’s arrival! This is to ensure my availability.

Can my other siblings be included in the session?

Absolutely. Newborn & toddler sibling portraits can sometimes be a little bit harder to capture, but I do have several ideas for trying that usually work well.

How long will the session last?

Newborn sessions are very unpredictable. The average session lasts between 1-2 hours.

What if my baby cries or is cranky?

Once your session is scheduled, I will give you all of the information that is needed to help ensure a happy, sleepy baby during our session. If you follow these tips, chances are good that we will not have a problem, although some babies do take longer than others to settle.

Where does the session take place?

In the comfort of your home OR in-studio. I love to incorporate pieces of your home & family into the session – whether it be a heirloom blanket, handmade rocker, cozy couch, textured ottoman – it adds a personal touch to your photos. The nursery can also provide a nice background.

The studio setting offers more props and proper lighting.

How much does the session cost?

The newborn home session is $250. An in-studio session is $200.

Can I get digital copies of my photos and prints?

Yes. I offer the option to purchase the digital rights to your newborn photo gallery in high-resolution, lightly edited files. I utilize a professional lab for all prints products, and offer affordable print products. The cost is $200 for the fully edited CD.

What should we wear? What should the baby wear?

Once your session is reserved, I will send you information to help you prepare for your newborn session. It will include clothing suggestions and where you can even find cute, unique, knitted baby items. I also have several items that you may choose from.
